North, South, East and Kanye West -Blog 1

Kanye West, arguably my generation's most significant rap lyricist, created and branched out into forming his brand/style of music since he released his debut album 'College Dropout' 12 years ago. Kanye bloody West, the modest, bizarre, vocal persona, has established an unbreakable presence in the rap scene were all aware of today. Love him or hate him, racking in 21 Grammys, Kanye West has produced a range of music that polarises your ears with hints of 90s-styled rap towards the new age of modern rap/pop. His culturally aware wordplay, as well as his well-thought-out lyrics, are what define him to be the figure he is today.

Studying Kanye and his art form makes it valuable to understand that every song produced is never just a classic song. Kanye's music comes from disadvantaged communities where music is valued at such importance, a process of self-expression and exposure to how these communities struggled for generations. This Chicago rapper has used these healing tools through music to form a voice for his town.

I could talk about how Kanye West has influenced my life and others all day. Regarding the BCM 241 week two blog post, I thought to go with the approach of discussing Kanye West's media presence and how he's shocked the internet with his outrageous doings. From screaming on stage at his presidential rally (seen below) to bombarding the Oscars to interrupting Taylor Swift (seen below) before receiving her award. Kanye leaves a media impact in such ways that Kanye will be discussed for generations.

Kanye West Presidential Rally

Kanye west interrupted Taylor Swift from receiving a VMA.

Kanye west can control the media and instantly throw a spanner into the mix. He always keeps people on the edges of their seats using Twitter, Instagram and other platforms to express his very peculiar views on what's changing throughout society, along with humorous attacks on fellow celebrities who may not see eye to eye with Kanye himself. It's strange the consistent wildness of these posts and captions Kanye creates always leaves me baffled as to whether he knows what he's doing is insane. Or he genuinely believes his actions are held accountable.

The media niche chosen is a fascinating topic for my studies, leaving all options open regarding how I can approach Kanye West's timeline throughout the social media era. Potentially discuss how the media helped Kanye become the rap hero we see today. Or if the media is controlling his mind, the opinions left by fans or fellow celebrities are potentially taking their toll upon young Kanye and if the fame and fortune have gotten into his head. All these findings will be determined throughout my BCM241 studies, a series of ethnographic research on the niche media platform known as Kanye west.

To narrow Kanye's best tweets or publicity moments into just four scenarios is borderline impossible. I like to say Kanye's favourite place at this current stage to express his views would be Instagram. Consistently deleting and re-uploading new posts (mainly aimed at Pete or 'Skete' Davidson) to captivate an audience with no second thoughts given. Here are my top 5 moments of Kanye's media lifestyle.
